The Eras at a Glance — What Your Cards (and Purchases) Mean
Thirty years of Pokemon cards don't all behave the same way. Here's the honest map of the eras — worth reading before you buy or sell anything:
Rarities & Chase Cards, Explained
Every era has its rarity ladder, but the idea never changes: most cards in a pack are common, and a few special versions — full arts, illustration rares, the top-tier chase cards — carry most of the value. Two things follow from that. First: pulling a chase card is a lottery ticket — know the odds and love the ride — that honesty is the whole hobby. Second: chase card values move constantly, so we price everything against live market comps — on screen, together, every time. No guesswork, no gotchas.
Sealed, Explained
Screen & Series Status
Updated July 2026: the Mega Evolution era is in full swing — Mega chase tiers have joined the game and new sets are landing every couple of months — and Pokemon is celebrating its 30th anniversary, a milestone that historically makes anniversary product instantly collectible. Ask at the counter what's newest and what's coming.
Collector's Corner — We Buy, We Grade, We Authenticate
Pokemon collections are the most common thing that walks through our door, and the rules we work by are simple. We check your cards in front of you, with live comps on screen — the eras table above is exactly the framework we use, and we'll teach it as we go. We authenticate — Pokemon is the most-faked card game on earth, and we check texture, print and light on anything significant, buying or selling. We broker CGC grading for cards that deserve a slab. And whether it's a shoebox or a vault, we buy Pokemon collections — bring them in. Chasing something specific? Ask — if it can be sourced sealed, we'll chase it with you.
FAQ - the three we hear most
Are my old Pokemon cards worth anything?
The honest answer: most cards printed after the early 2000s are common and carry modest value — but the exceptions are life-changing. Cards from the 1999–2003 originals with the 1st Edition stamp or Shadowless printing, holographic rares in great condition, and the top chase cards of any era can be worth real money, and condition multiplies everything. Don't guess and don't let anyone else guess: bring them in and we'll check together, live comps on screen.
Which Pokemon product should I buy — packs, a booster box, or an Elite Trainer Box?
Depends on the person. Loose packs are the perfect small thrill — ideal for kids and stocking-stuffers. Elite Trainer Boxes are the best all-round buy: packs plus sleeves and accessories, gift-ready out of the box. Booster boxes are for the committed — the most packs per dollar for the person who wants to rip deep into a set. Tell us who it's for and we'll match the product in ten seconds.
What does getting a card graded mean — and is it worth it?
Grading sends a card to a professional service that authenticates it, scores its condition out of 10, and seals it in a protective case. It's worth doing when a card's value is well above the grading fee, when top condition needs proving to a buyer, or when a personal grail deserves protecting. We broker CGC grading submissions in-store and we'll give you an honest read on whether your card is a grading candidate before you spend a cent.
