And the difference between a good grade and a mediocre one is large enough in dollars to cover the submission cost several times over. Keys in apparently high grade are the classic candidates.

The book is common, the condition is mid, or the value is modest. Submission fees, shipping both ways, insurance and your time add up per book — and a mediocre grade on a modest comic can leave you worse off than selling it raw, because you have now paid to certify that it is average.
