Where Do I Start?
Start at Volume 1 — no exceptions, no shortcuts needed. One Piece is one continuous story, and it is telling you things in chapter one that pay off decades later.
New readers: Volume 1 or Box Set 1 (East Blue, the first 23 volumes in one case — the single best manga gift we sell).
Watched the show? The anime and Netflix series both adapt the same story from the beginning, so the manga still starts at Volume 1 — you'll be surprised how fast it moves.
Read it years ago? The time-skip at Volume 61 is the natural re-entry point.

Screen & Series Status
Updated July 2026: the Final Saga continues in the manga, with Box Set 5 (volumes 91–111) arriving late this year. On screens: Netflix's live-action Season 2 aired in March, Season 3 is filming, and THE ONE PIECE — the ground-up anime remake of East Blue by WIT Studio — arrives February 2027. There has never been a better on-ramp moment.
Collector's Corner
One Piece is a reading franchise more than a speculating one — VIZ keeps the run in print, so buy to read, not to flip. The genuine collector pieces are the Color Walk artbooks (they cycle out of print and climb), out-of-print novel printings, and complete matched-spine runs, which we love taking in trade. Have a collection to sell? Bring it in — we buy complete and partial runs. And every completionist knows the pain of one missing volume: if it isn't on the shelf, we can special-order any single volume on request.
FAQ - the three we hear most
Where should I start reading One Piece?
At Volume 1, always. One Piece is a single continuous story, and every later payoff is built on the early chapters. Box Set 1 collects the entire first saga in one case if you want the full runway. Fans of the anime or Netflix show also start at Volume 1 — same story, told first and fastest here.
Is One Piece too long to catch up on?
It's long, but catching up is a feature: no waiting between cliffhangers, and the 3-in-1 omnibus editions cover three volumes per book at the lowest cost per chapter. Most readers are shocked how fast the sagas fly by. Read at your own pace — the story isn't going anywhere, and if a volume you need isn't on the shelf, Comic King can special-order it on request.
Should I read the manga or watch the anime first?
Either works — it's the same story — but the manga is the original and moves at Oda's intended pace, with no filler. Plenty of fans do both: watch for the spectacle, read to get ahead. If you only choose one, start with the manga; it's the version everything else is built from.
